Travelling to Harley Street for a health screening: make a day of it
Written by Mr Stephen LingamReviewed by Dr Mohammad Bakhtiar (GMC 4694470) on

Many of our screening patients come in from outside London: Surrey, Kent, Berkshire, Cambridge, Oxford and further afield, and some fly in. A health screening on Harley Street can be a good day out, and it needn't be stressful, worrying or difficult.
You can do everything in one go, in a single visit. Or you can spread it out, come with your partner, and make a weekend of it. Here are three ways patients plan it. Every tier is on our Health MOT page, and the team on 020 7183 7056 will help you pick dates.
Plan 1: one visit, then home
| Tier | Time to allow | Before you arrive |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | About 45 minutes | Eat and drink as normal |
| Advanced | 1 to 1.5 hours | Fast for at least 4 hours |
| Elite | 2.5 to 3 hours | Fast for at least 4 hours |
| Ultimate | 3 to 4 hours, including 60 to 90 minutes of MRI | Fast for at least 4 hours |
A morning appointment suits a fast best: a light early breakfast, the medical, and lunch afterwards. Ultrasound and MRI are done by our imaging partners on Harley Street, a short walk from the clinic, so the whole thing happens within a few minutes of 117a. Bring a list of your medicines and any earlier results, and our guide on how to prepare for a Health MOT has the full checklist.
Plan 2: a Friday and Saturday in London
A popular plan is the medical on Friday morning, a long lunch in Marylebone, dinner out in the evening, and the MRI on Saturday.
Some patients book a hotel and make a full weekend of it. Marylebone High Street is on the doorstep, with its restaurants and shops, and the West End is a short walk south.
"A lot of our patients come in from outside London. Do it all in one visit if that suits you, or have the scan the next day. Either way, I can go through the results with you on a video call."
Dr Mohammad Bakhtiar, Clinical Lead
Plan 3: come as a couple
Many couples book together. You can have your medicals back to back and go for lunch together, or one of you has a scan while the other goes shopping, and you meet up afterwards. Each of you has your own examination with a doctor and your own results review. On Advanced, Elite and Ultimate, the four GP consultations over 12 months are shareable with immediate family.
Getting here
The clinic is at Suite 3, 117a Harley Street, London W1G 6AT, within walking distance of Regent's Park, Great Portland Street and Oxford Circus Underground stations. We are open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 18:00, and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 14:00.
Once you are home
Essential results are usually ready in two to three working days, and Elite and Ultimate often take five to ten, because the scans are reported by specialists first. Your review can be by video or telephone, usually with the doctor who examined you, so there is no second journey. Follow-up is included in every tier, and if anything needs a specialist, we arrange it. Our guide who will review my results? explains how the review works.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do everything in one visit?
Yes. Every tier can be done in one go, including the MRI on Ultimate. Splitting it over two days is just an option.
Are you open at weekends?
Yes. The clinic is open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00, as well as Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00.
