If your screening finds something: how we choose the specialist we refer you to

A health screening earns its fee when it finds something and then sees it through. The test is the easy part. What matters is what happens next: who you see, how quickly, and whether they are the right person for the problem.

We have been on Harley Street since 1984, working alongside the best specialists in the country. When your screening finds something, we refer you directly to the right one, we can get you seen quicker, and we don't charge for the referral. Every tier is on our Health MOT page.

A worked example

Say your ECG shows a rhythm that needs a cardiologist's opinion. Here is what happens, step by step.

  • The tracing goes to Prof Darrel Francis, consultant cardiologist (GMC 4062833), who provides cardiac oversight for our screening. There is no extra charge for that reading.
  • Your doctor goes through his opinion with you, in person, by video or by telephone, and agrees the next step.
  • If you need to be seen, we write the referral, send your examination findings, bloods and ECG, and help arrange the appointment.
  • There is no fee for the referral. The specialist's own consultation is booked and charged separately.
  • After the appointment, we stay in touch with the specialist so your screening record and their plan stay joined up.

The same steps apply to a thyroid nodule on ultrasound, a raised PSA or a finding on MRI. Only the specialist changes.

Why we can get you seen quicker

Harley Street has the densest concentration of specialists in the country, and we have been part of it for more than 40 years. Our doctors know the consultants they refer to: how they work, how soon they can see someone, and which of them suits a particular patient.

"If your result needs a specialist, I pick up the phone. I've referred to most of these consultants for years, and it moves faster when they know who's asking."

Dr Mohammad Bakhtiar, Clinical Lead

A referral from a doctor the consultant knows, with your results and scans attached, moves faster than a cold enquiry to an appointments desk. You don't have to write your own letter or explain a flagged scan to someone new from scratch. Some of the senior clinicians who work with us are named on our consultants page, including specialists in cardiology, gynaecology, immunology, psychiatry and older people's medicine.

Why independence matters

Insurers and large hospital groups often run screening as the front of their own services, with their own radiologists, consultants and beds. We are an independent clinic, so the only question when we refer you is who is the best person for this problem.

If you have private medical insurance, tell us when you are referred. Many insurers need to authorise a specialist appointment before it happens.

After treatment

Once you have been treated, we can repeat your screening, or run the specific tests that show whether things are improving. Follow-up is included in every tier, and Advanced, Elite and Ultimate add four GP consultations over 12 months, shareable with immediate family. Read checking progress after specialist treatment for how that works, and what happens after a Health MOT flags something for the first conversation about a flagged result.
