Corporate Screening
What a UK employer should buy as corporate health screening
A board asks for staff health checks and someone books a single executive day. That is the usual purchase, and it is usually the wrong one. A UK employer should buy a scoped corporate screening programme: named tiers, a reporting route that protects medical confidentiality, and a diary that can run at Harley Street or on site. A one-off executive assessment is for senior leaders, embassy principals and critical-role staff. It is not a substitute for annual employee medicals or a workforce screening day.
The Health Screening Clinic has practised at 117a Harley Street since 1984. Corporate work is CQC-registered, delivered by GMC-registered doctors, supported by UKAS-accredited laboratory partners, and reported under GDPR. There is no monthly retainer. You pay only for the screenings you commission, with volume pricing for larger cohorts. A written proposal is returned within one working day. A screening date is often available within two weeks, subject to cohort size and location.
A programme, not a day for one person
Corporate screening here is occupational work for organisations, from five staff upwards, subject to clinical scope. It answers an employer question: how do we screen this group, in this place, with this reporting rule? It does not answer a private question about one person's full body MOT.
Both visits can include a doctor, blood pressure and blood tests. The programme is built around the cohort. The executive day is built around one person with more imaging, more pathology and an in-person results review. Using that day as the default for every employee buys the wrong depth for most roles and leaves HR without a repeatable specification.
Employees attend 117a Harley Street, or the clinic runs a screening day at your office when the space, equipment and scope allow. Imaging, including chest X-ray, MRI and ultrasound, is completed at partner centres a few minutes' walk from Harley Street.
If you need to contact the clinic about a cohort, say the headcount, the roles, the location and any dates you actually hold.
Match the employer tier to the role
Employer prices are not Health MOT prices. Mixing the two is how a finance team compares £210 with £495 and treats them as the same hour.
| Employer tier | From | Usual fit | Typical extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | £210 | Routine annual checks for general office and operational staff | Doctor examination, blood pressure, urinalysis, lifestyle discussion, express written report |
| Advanced | £349 | Safety-sensitive roles, new-starter screening, mid-career checks | Resting ECG, vision, audiometry, spirometry, chest X-ray, Silver blood profile |
| Executive | £599 | Senior leadership, embassy principals and critical-role staff | Gold blood profile, in-person results review, condition-management plan, referral letters |
Essential workforce screening starts from £210 per employee. It includes a doctor's physical examination, blood pressure and pulse, urinalysis, a lifestyle and cardiovascular risk discussion, and an express written report. That is the usual fit for routine annual checks for general office and operational staff.
Advanced workforce screening starts from £349 per employee and adds a resting ECG, visual acuity, audiometry, spirometry, a chest X-ray at partner imaging centres, and a Silver blood profile covering full blood count, kidney, liver, lipids, glucose and ESR. That is the usual fit for safety-sensitive roles, new-starter screening and mid-career checks that need lungs, hearing, vision and a broader laboratory panel.
Executive and ultimate screening starts from £599 per employee. It adds a Gold blood profile including iron, free T4 and TSH, an in-person results review with a Harley Street doctor, a condition-management plan, and consultant referral letters where indicated. That is the executive day. It belongs with senior leadership, embassy principals and critical-role staff.
Bespoke occupational add-ons are priced per panel. The usual requests are spirometry, audiometry and vision; heavy metals including lead; rapid drug and alcohol panels; immunity status and vaccination programmes; skin prick testing with an in-house immunologist; and TB Quantiferon with same-day chest X-ray. Add them because the role needs them, not because the executive menu looked longer.
What happens on site, and what does not
Most organisations use the Harley Street clinic. For five or more staff, a screening day can run at the office, subject to space, equipment and clinical scope. The team arrives with portable spirometry, audiometry, vision equipment, drug and alcohol testing kits, ECG and phlebotomy. Samples are couriered to pathology partners the same day.
Chest X-ray, MRI and ultrasound stay at partner imaging centres near Harley Street. Do not plan an on-site day around a scanner in the meeting room. If the specification includes imaging, those people attend the partner centre.
What HR receives, and what the employee keeps
Paying the invoice does not transfer ownership of the medical file. Individual clinical reports go to the employee. Employers receive only consented summaries: fit-to-work letters, attendance confirmation, or structured corporate reports as scoped.
That is a clinical and data-protection rule, not a courtesy. Health information is special category data under UK GDPR. GMC guidance on disclosure for employment purposes is built around consent, relevance, and not sending a whole record when a limited opinion will do. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 still places duties on employers for health, safety and welfare. Those duties do not convert a doctor's notes into an HR attachment.
If the organisation needs more than attendance and fitness, that extra disclosure is a consent question for the employee, in writing, and it is agreed when the programme is scoped. Embassy, leadership and high-profile cohorts can have named-doctor liaison and encrypted delivery to a single nominated contact.
Annual medicals, workforce days and the rest of the menu
Annual employee medicals are a repeatable check, often used to monitor wellbeing and to sit inside a wider HR commitment. HMRC guidance at EIM21765 describes an exemption for no more than one health-screening assessment and no more than one medical check-up per employee in a tax year, with a narrow definition of each. The exemption is specific, particularly for directors and group schemes. Confirm treatment with your accountant. This clinic does not give tax advice.
One-off workforce screening is a single clinical day, or several, at the office or at Harley Street. It suits a return to the office, a post-merger health audit, or a pre-quarter cohort. Executive and critical-staff assessments are the deep visit described above. Embassy and discreet assessments are confidential medicals for ambassadors, diplomats and high-profile principals.
Pre and post-deployment checks are fit-to-work assessments for overseas postings, delivered by FCDO-registered doctors, provided the operations team shares the required forms. If staff also need destination visa papers, that is a visa medical pathway, scoped to the embassy form you actually hold.
The Health Screening Clinic's sister practice, Medical Express Clinic, is the corporate healthcare partner for GP-access work. This article is about screening programmes, not that GP-access service.
Work that sits outside this remit
The clinic does not provide musculoskeletal or manual-handling screens, COSHH dust and fume respiratory health surveillance, hand-arm vibration (HAVS) screening, statutory night-worker assessments, driver medicals for DVLA, taxi or HGV, or offshore OGUK medicals. If the programme needs those, a specialist can be introduced.
If someone is unwell, has a new or worsening symptom, or may need urgent care, neither a screening programme nor an executive day is the right visit. A GP, NHS 111, or 999 and A&E remain the routes for illness and emergencies.
Personal Health MOTs are a different diary
Health MOT packages are preventative assessments for individuals. The Essential Health MOT starts from £495. The Advanced Health MOT is a different, deeper personal visit. Those prices and inclusions are not the employer Essential from £210 or the employer Advanced from £349.
A personal MOT may be used as a staff package when that is what was scoped, for example a small leadership group who each need an individual preventative assessment with a results review that belongs to them. Do not book MOT slots because the workforce page looked similar.
Tips and tricks
- Write down the question before anyone attends. If you need a repeatable annual medical for general staff, Essential is the usual employer tier.
- If roles need lungs, hearing, vision, ECG and a Silver blood profile, Advanced is the usual employer tier.
- If you have a handful of critical people who need Gold bloods, an in-person review and referral letters, buy Executive for those people only.
- Send headcount, roles, location and any forms you hold when you enquire.
- Ask for the reporting route in writing: clinical reports to the employee, consented summaries to the employer, nothing further without explicit consent.
- Ask which tests happen at Harley Street, which travel to the office, and which sit at a partner imaging centre, so time off is planned against the real locations.
- If staff are deploying overseas, share the employer forms. If you want an annual scheme that may sit near the HMRC exemption, say so and take the invoice wording to your accountant rather than treating the exemption as automatic.
Things to avoid
- Do not buy a one-off executive day for a whole workforce.
- Do not treat a personal Health MOT as occupational screening, or occupational screening as a private MOT with an invoice at the end.
- Do not expect HR to receive individual results because the company paid.
- Do not assume imaging happens in the office.
- Do not invent a monthly retainer; there is none.
- Do not stretch this clinic into COSHH, HAVS, night-worker, driver or OGUK work.
- Do not treat HMRC EIM21765 as a promise that every screening day is exempt.
- Do not sit on chest pain because a workforce medical is already booked.
Enquire about a corporate screening programme if you have five or more staff and a specification to agree. Details sit on the occupational health page. The corporate desk can be reached on 020 7499 1991.

Frequently asked questions
What should a UK employer buy instead of a one-off executive day?
A scoped corporate screening programme, with employer tiers matched to the roles in the cohort. Essential from £210 is the usual annual medical for general staff. Advanced from £349 adds ECG, vision, hearing, spirometry, chest X-ray and Silver bloods. Executive from £599 is for senior, embassy and critical-role people, not for everyone.
What is the minimum cohort, and is there a retainer?
From five staff, subject to clinical scope, at Harley Street or on site. There is no monthly retainer. You pay only for the screenings commissioned, with volume pricing for larger cohorts.
What does the employer receive?
Only consented summaries: fit-to-work letters, attendance confirmation, or structured corporate reports as scoped. Individual clinical reports go to the employee.
How quickly can a programme start?
A proposal is returned within one working day. A screening date is often available within two weeks, subject to cohort size and location.
Are employee health screenings exempt from tax?
HMRC EIM21765 describes a narrow exemption for no more than one health-screening assessment and one medical check-up per employee per tax year. Confirm treatment with your accountant. This clinic does not give tax advice.
Can staff use a personal Health MOT instead?
A personal Health MOT is a different diary. It may be used as a staff package when that is what was scoped. It is not the occupational programme, and its prices are not the employer tiers.
What is out of scope?
The clinic does not cover musculoskeletal or manual-handling screens, COSHH dust and fume surveillance, HAVS, statutory night-worker assessments, DVLA taxi and HGV driver medicals, or OGUK offshore medicals.
